Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune is a premier medical institute of India. The College is a Centre of Excellence for medical education and research. It was initially established in 1948 for postgraduate courses. The graduate wing for the MBBS course was started on 04 Aug 1962 with the aim of inducting medical graduates to the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS). Presently the college provides training to Graduate, Post-Graduate & Post-Doctoral medical and nursing students with assured career prospects in the Defence Services.

The MBBS course is offered at AFMC Pune, a prestigious medical institution in India. Annually, AFMC Pune admits 150 students through a highly competitive process. Admission is determined primarily by merit in the NEET-UG examination, supplemented by additional evaluations designed for officers of the Indian Armed Forces. This comprehensive assessment includes a rigorous medical examination to ensure the candidates meet the stringent health standards set by the Armed Forces. A merit list is then compiled, featuring candidates who not only excel academically but also meet the required medical fitness criteria. This thorough selection process emphasizes both academic excellence and physical fitness, aligning with the standards expected of future officers in the Indian Armed Forces.

A total of 150 candidates (including 05 Govt. sponsored candidates from Friendly Foreign Countries) will be selected in the year 2025, of which 145 candidates (115 boys and 30 girls) will be selected as Medical Cadets for undergoing MBBS at the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune with liability to serve in the Armed Forces Medical Services as Medical Officers. The candidates selected in addition to becoming doctors will also be commissioned as officers of the Indian Armed Forces, wherein they have to be both physically and psychologically robust to be able to undergo the rigors of life in the Armed Forces. The selected candidates need to have leadership qualities, effective communication skills and exacting physical standards, as the same are prime requisites for serving officers of the Armed Forces.
