It replaced all state and institutional entrance tests from 2013 onwards and became the sole gateway for MBBS, BDS and AYUSH admissions across India.
NEET UG is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), an autonomous body under the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India. The examination is held in pen-and-paper (offline) mode once a year, in 13 regional languages. Once you qualify NEET UG, you must separately register for NEET UG counselling — the process that determines which college and seat you are allotted.
The exam is mandatory not just for admissions in India but also for Indian students aspiring to pursue MBBS abroad — as per NMC regulations, qualifying NEET UG is a prerequisite for Indian students who wish to practise medicine in India after completing their foreign MBBS degree.
